Ali Handal: Music & Video

You're Still With Me

(Ali Handal)
Written by Ali Handal and a girl named jaen
This is a song I wrote about my dear friend (and bass player in my band) Wes Wehmiller, after his sudden passing in 2005. I co-wrote it with my friend jaen, who had recently experienced the loss of her mom. It was both a cathartic experience for us, and a way for us to honor our loved ones.
All that’s left of you is love
You’re still with me every day
I hold you in my heart and I give you away

It hasn’t hit me that you’re gone
I’ve been far too busy staying strong
How can I believe that all that’s left of you is love?

Where has the rest of you gone?
What’s it like to feel so free?

Are you floating in the clouds? Watching over me?
Are you resting in the earth? The ground supporting me?
Are you rustling the leaves? Whispering to me?

We didn’t get to say goodbye
But I still hear you all the time
You were such a mystery
Now all that’s left of you is love

Where has the rest of you gone?
What’s it like to feel so free?

Are you skating on the moon, beaming down on me?
Are you singing with the birds, serenading me?
Are you harnessing the wind, drying my tears?
