Ali Handal: Music & Video
Ashes to Ashes
(Ali Handal)
Written by Ali Handal & a girl named jaen
I wrote this song in memory of my beloved Grandpa Joseph Handal, who passed away in 2001.
The guitar (myself) and bass (Wes Wehmiller) for this track were recorded live in the studio, and we called this particular take the "magic take" because of the energy that Wes & I (and Grandpa) created behind it.
In the mystic early dawn
I can feel you rising
your hand softening in mine
your soul climbing
you were Joseph to us all
generous and kind
you gave us our father
now we’re left behind
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Without you here, what’s to become of us?
you leave a family torn apart
aching by your side
all you wanted was our joy
and Lord we’re trying
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Without you here, what’s to become of us?
and I hope you’ve found a peaceful place
and you’re gazing down on me now
