I Miss You
(Ali Handal)
Written by Ali Handal
I was on tour on the East Coast, totally unable to get over an old flame (and friend) I had been involved with six months prior.
I was inspired by my friends in Melodrome, who I had just played a show with in Massachusetts. Their songs tend to be simple, yet funky and totally compelling. The guys in the band gave me a ride back to NYC the next day, and we spent the whole 2-hour drive listening to Sade.
That night, inspired by the simplicity of Melodrome's songwriting and the haunting melodies (and harmonies) of Sade, I wrote "I Miss You." This is one of those songs that came to me in one evening - it virtually wrote itself.
I didn’t call to make you angry
I didn’t call to hear you cry
I didn’t call to prove you wrong
I didn’t call to say I’m right
But before I let you go, I just need you to know
I miss you tonight
I miss you tonight
I didn’t call to make you sorry
I didn’t call to hear you lie
I didn’t call to make you feel misunderstood
I didn’t call to change your mind
But before I let you go, I just need you to know
I miss you tonight
I miss you tonight
I won’t take much of your precious time away
But before you go I really need to hear you say…
I miss you tonight
